Autotrolej bearing this name since 1953, is a proud heir of the tradition of transportation spanning three centuries.
The beginnings of mass transit in Rijeka date to 1874, when the transportation of passengers with horse – drawn omnibuses was organized in the center of town.
Firm Rijecki električni tramvaj (Rijeka Electric Trams) was established o the 7th of November 1899. This day is noted us the real beginning of organized public city transport.
20th century on Rijeka´s roads was equally marked by trams, trolley-cars and busses. We have stepped into the new century with a modern transport fleet.
It is very impressive figure that now days Autotrolej deals with 42 lines daily connecting 12 towns and communes with a district center.
By the period of one year the buses passed about 10 million kilometers transferring almost 35 million passengers.
The traffic is divided to the city`s local and district`s outlaying moving.
Starting from January 1991 the zones tariff system and semi automatic system of charging is working.
City`s (local) transfer operating with 18 lines having a total length of 136,50 kilometers in the direction of A (East-West) and 127,90 in the direction of B (West-East). The lines are covering the entire city`s territory, while the net is arranged following the basic directions of the roads extension.
The Communes transportation consist of 22 lines with a total length of 478,00 kilometers taking A direction and 490,25 kilometers with B direction.
Autotrolej as City carrier is unique one, among the other Croatian carriers, that poses hologram protection inserted in travel tickets. The Certificate for the imprinting of hologram protection, with the text
Autotrolej 1899-1999, is in use from May 15th 1998.
Also Autotrolej was a first in Croatia with a application of program that follows tickets selling.
2006 is a Year that Autotrolej achieved the ISO Certifiacte 9001 2000 setting Autotrolej on the top of Municipal services in Rijeka, besides Rijeka City the same position Autotrolej won in entire Croatia as well.
The main problems that Autotrolej faces are the relocation of the main service – maintenance facilites to a new location and the renewal of the transport fleet.The new bus depot is planed to be built outside the center of town.
As Rijeka is a first Croatian City a member of Energy Cities by beginning 2008 signed the Energy charter, Auototrolej took obligation to renew and to do a purchase of 40 new CNG buses.
In 2010, Autotrolej have 696 employees, of whom 381 drivers. The company operated 185 buses. |
